Who is a good candidate for sedation dentistry?
Most patients can benefit from sedation dentistry, but there are certain pre-existing conditions that might prevent you from being a candidate for this treatment.
These conditions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- $Pregnancy
- $Allergy to sedatives
- $Central nervous system depression
- $Glaucoma
Types of sedation dentistry
Twilight Sedation
Also known as conscious sedation, twilight sedation is frequently used for small surgeries or for shorter, less complicated treatments. When a local anesthetic injection is not enough but deeper general anesthesia is not required.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Also known as “laughing gas”, this is a safe and effective anesthetic given to patients via a mask. It isn’t going to put you to sleep like general anesthesia, but you’ll experience a general body-wide sense of numbness and feel a little lightheaded. You’ll be able to interact with your surroundings and it takes only a few minutes for the effects to completely wear off.
When you visit us, we’ll assess your situation to decide which sedation option is right for you. Here you can book your appointment.
What to do after you have dental sedation?
Recovery after sedation dentistry means taking time for the drowsiness to pass as your body returns to normal. If you’ll be receiving twilight sedation, having a friend or family member drive you to and from our dental office is important.
Our team prioritizes patient safety above all else. We offer safe, custom sedation dentistry has proven to be both safe and effective.
