MI Paste

Preventive care goes a long way toward safeguarding you and your family against tooth decay. At Laser Dentistry of Erie, LLC, we can provide our patients with MI Paste, a treatment that fortifies your teeth with essential minerals that provide additional defense against cavities and tooth decay.

Why use MI Paste?

MI Paste contains Recaldent. The active ingredient is casein phosphopeptide (CPP), a naturally occurring molecule that releases calcium and phosphate ions.

Administering calcium and phosphate to the surfaces of teeth have the following effects:

  • Relieves sensitivity, especially before and after a professional dental cleaning, or after a tooth whitening procedure
  • Does not irritate dry mouth, a common side effect of other medications

How does MI Paste work?

MI Paste is not a type of toothpaste. It is a topical crème, albeit one that you can use safely several times per day. To apply MI Paste, clean the teeth, and then smear a small amount onto tooth surfaces using a clean finger or an applicator with a cotton tip. Using your toothbrush to apply MI Paste is not recommended.

If applied before bed, MI Paste dissolves gradually while you sleep.

MI Paste is a water-based, sugar-free crème that comes in five different flavors.

Is MI Paste right for me?

MI Paste should not be used by patients who have an allergy to milk protein or benzoate preservatives.

It is safe, however, for patients who are pregnant and new mothers who are breastfeeding. It is safe even to use on infants whose primary teeth are just emerging. It is well tolerated by children and especially useful in increasing the mineral level on teeth of young children under the age of two.

MI Paste is only available by prescription.
